Riding Lesson Program

Kismet farm offers a full service English riding, and lesson program. We cater to riders beginning to learn, riders wishing to advance their skills, and riders who are getting back into the sport after taking time away. We offer weekly, bi-weekly, and bi—monthly classes.  The program has a variety of school horses to learn from, along with well qualified instructors. Our staff prides itself on providing a fun, relaxing, goal and safety oriented program.

The lesson program is structured to develop riding and horsemanship skills alike. During inclement weather episodes instructors teach students various lessons regarding the health and well-being of the horse. Throughout the program students will learn the basics of horsemanship, including but not limited to, basic horse grooming, tacking and untacking, proper care and cleaning of equipment, basic horse terminology, and basics of horse health. Kismet strives to produce horsemen and women, not just “riders”.

During the year we offer students, and family alike, many different opportunities for furthering their equine education. There are various mini-camps scheduled during holiday breaks from school. Summer camps over the summer holiday have been student favorites for the past ten years! We also will be conducting clinics with varying topics such as, horse show preparation for the rider and the horse, horse health specifics, advanced horse care and veterinary field trips.

Students are also given the opportunity to compete at schooling shows throughout the year. Kismet students regularly compete at many competitions with various “ratings”, from in home barn shows to double “A”. Most horse shows have classes to accommodate the very beginning rider. So don’t be shy about attending. Riders at all levels are always welcome!

Students are scheduled in a time slot, on a certain day of the week, with a certain instructor. Horses are scheduled according to rider suitability, not necessarily the favorite.  It should be expected to ride different horses. All horses are unique and have their own special lessons to teach.  Staff always has rider safety as the primary goal, with rider advancement as the close second. Students will most likely have the same instructor from class to class, but should be prepared for a substitute on occasion. As all teachers have their own unique style and personality. Riders only benefit from having another set of eyes on them. Kismet also has a farm “syllabus” for teaching.  This ensures an organized progression of skill sets to be taught in a logical sequence. We also have partnered with a local tack shop for a basic package of equipment that can be purchased separately, or together for a discount. We also have provided a link to our favorite online, and mail catalogues with a list of appropriate products found in each.
